South Africa in Living Colour
Craig Travellers Brian and Sheila Lacroix recently returned from the vibrant Cape Town region of South Africa, and let’s just say—we’re a little envious. Their journey combined jaw-dropping scenery, rich culture, wildlife encounters, and more than a few “pinch me” moments. As they put it:

"We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to the Cape Town area. The majestic mountains, the two oceans, beautiful skies, panoramic views from Table Mountain and Cape Point, and a visit to the Stellenbosch wine region were memorable."
With clear skies as their travel companion, they ascended Table Mountain by cable car, soaking in views that seem more like brushstrokes on a canvas than real life. On another day, they hopped on the funicular to Cape Point, where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans perform their dramatic dance.
After visiting the Cape of Good Hope, the journey continued with a scenic drive along the Atlantic coast back to Cape Town, a route as rugged as it is breathtaking.
The sensory delights didn’t stop there. One evening, they were treated to a golden sunset view from their hotel in Tyger Valley, the kind of moment where time seems to stand still.
But wait... It gets wilder!
In Inverdoorn, a private game reserve outside Cape Town, the real stars made their entrance: lions, elephants, rhinos, giraffes, cheetahs—oh my! (Sorry, we had to.) All observed respectfully and up close in their natural habitat. One photo they sent us? A giraffe framed by a sunset. Yes, it was as magical as it sounds.
And there was more than just wildlife. South Africa’s flora and fauna were on full display at the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden and The Company’s Garden, both bursting with colour and history. The journey also included a sobering and powerful visit to Robben Island, a poignant reminder of the country’s complex past.
Of course, no South African adventure is complete without sipping your way through the Stellenbosch wine region, where the only thing better than the views might be the vintages.
Oh, and did we mention the penguins? And the baboons? Because, yes, those happened too.
Did You Know? Fun Facts from the Cape
1. Cape Point is often mistakenly believed to be where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet—but the real meeting point is at Cape Agulhas, further east. Still, Cape Point has the drama and the views!
2. Table Mountain is one of the oldest mountains in the world, estimated to be over 200 million years old.
3. Penguins in Africa? You bet. The famous African penguins waddle their way into travellers’ hearts along Boulders Beach near Simon’s Town
