For nearly 400 years, this sacred community vow has defined the village, drawing pilgrims to witness this living history. What sets the Oberammergau Passion Play apart is its deep-rooted sense of community. More than 2,000 residents, every actor, singer, musician, stagehand, and costume maker, are local villagers who dedicate a full year to preparation.
