Frequently Asked Questions – South Africa, Victoria Falls & Chobe

About the Journey

Q: What is the typical group size for this journey?
A: The October 2026 departure is one of our smallest groups, with a maximum of just 16 travellers. The smaller group size allows for a more personal travel experience, easier wildlife viewing, and greater flexibility throughout the journey.

Q: Will we be travelling together as a group?
A: Yes. Guests travelling on Craig Travel's group flights will travel together from Canada to Cape Town. Travellers who book land-only arrangements will join the group upon arrival. Airport transfers can be arranged if required.

Safari Experience

Q: Will there be access to washrooms during safari drives?
A: Yes. Washroom facilities are available at the lodges and at designated rest stops before and after most game drives. While out on safari there are generally no washrooms available, as you will be travelling through protected wildlife areas.

Q: Are there any night safaris?
A: No. This journey focuses on early morning and late afternoon game drives, when wildlife is typically most active. Night safaris are not included as part of the itinerary.

Accommodation

Q: Are the single rooms a good size?
A: Yes. Guests paying the single supplement receive standard single occupancy rooms at the same quality hotels and safari lodges used by the group. Room layouts and sizes vary by property, but they are comfortable hotel rooms.

Q: I use a CPAP machine. Will this be a problem?
A: Not at all. Please bring the appropriate voltage converter and plug adaptor for the countries visited. Be sure to indicate on your Traveller Information Form that you will be travelling with a CPAP machine so we can advise the hotels in advance.

Health & Travel Preparation

Q: What currency should I bring?
A: We recommend bringing South African Rand (ZAR) for expenses in South Africa and some US dollars for Zimbabwe. Credit cards are widely accepted at hotels, restaurants and many shops throughout the journey. Small amount of cash is always recommended for souvenirs and snacks from vendors in rural areas or on the side of the road.

Q: Are any vaccinations required?
A: Vaccination recommendations vary depending on your personal health and travel history. Malaria medication is commonly recommended for some of the safari regions visited. We recommend consulting your family physician or a travel health clinic several weeks before departure. As vaccination advice is medical in nature, Craig Travel is unable to recommend specific vaccines.

Q: Do I need a visa?
A: Visa requirements depend on your citizenship. At the time of writing, Canadian passport holders generally do not require visas for South Africa, Botswana or Eswatini, while Zimbabwe issues tourist visas on arrival. Requirements can change, so our Sales Team will provide the latest information before departure.

Extensions

Q: Can I extend my stay in Cape Town?
A: Yes. Pre- or post-tour extensions may be available. Please speak with our Sales Team before booking so we can review the available options and pricing.

Future Departures

Q: Will this journey be offered again in October 2027?
A: We expect to offer another South Africa departure in October 2027. If you would like to be among the first to hear when it becomes available, please email tours [at] craigtravel.com and ask to be added to our "Be the First to Know" list.

Weather

Q: What temperatures can I expect in October and February?
A: October is spring in Southern Africa, with pleasant daytime temperatures generally ranging from 21°C to 30°C. February is summer and tends to be warmer and more humid, with temperatures typically between 25°C and 35°C, depending on the region.

Solo Travellers

Q: I am travelling alone. How can I avoid paying a single supplement?
A: Our CT Match program can match solo travellers of the same gender who wish to share a room, helping you avoid the single supplement. If you prefer your own room, single accommodation is available for an additional supplement, subject to availability.

Payments & Insurance

Q: Can I pay my final balance by e-transfer and still receive the cheque discount?
A: Yes. E-transfer payments qualify for the same discount as cheque payments, provided the full balance is received by the payment deadline. Credit card payments (Visa or Mastercard) are also accepted but do not qualify for the discount.

Q: Is travel insurance required?
A: Travel insurance is not mandatory, but it is strongly recommended. This journey visits remote safari areas where medical evacuation and trip interruption costs can be significant. Please contact tours [at] craigtravel.com for a complimentary insurance quote.
