Frequently Asked Questions: Iceland

Iceland: Land of Ice & Fire

Departure Date: May 29, 2026

Below are answers to some of the most common questions about the Iceland journey.

Weather & Packing

Q: What type of weather should we expect in late May/early June? Is it very cold?
A: The weather is usually mild but can change quickly. Daytime highs are around 9–15°C and lows 5–7°C. You might see sun, rain and wind all in one day, so it is best to dress in layers. Think of it as dressing for a fashion show where the runway is the Icelandic weather. Bring warm base layers, a fleece or wool sweater, a waterproof jacket and pants, sturdy shoes, warm socks, a hat, gloves and a scarf.

Sightseeing & Activities

Q: How much time will we spend at the Blue Lagoon and what is included?
A: You will have about two hours to enjoy the Blue Lagoon. Your visit includes the entrance fee, a towel rental, a silica mud mask to nourish your skin, and one non-alcoholic drink of your choice. Lockers are provided to safely store your personal items while you relax.

Q: What secure options exist at the Blue Lagoon for valuables?
A: Electronic lockers in the changing rooms are activated with your personal wristband. You can safely store passports, credit cards, wallets, phones and other valuables while you enjoy the lagoon.

Q: Will we see the Northern Lights?
A: No. During this trip in late May and early June, Iceland has around 20 hours of daylight, so the Northern Lights are not visible. However, you will experience the unique beauty of Iceland’s nearly 24-hour daylight and the midnight sun phenomenon.

Q: Are there scheduled wildlife-viewing opportunities?
A: Yes, several excursions include wildlife spotting. Highlights include:

Whale watching in Husavik: Look for humpback whales and thousands of puffins.

Breidafjordur fjord cruise: Spot seabirds such as puffins and eider ducks, plus seals.

Ytri Tunga beach on Snaefellsnes Peninsula: Another great spot for seals.

Icelandic horse farm visits: See these iconic animals up close and learn about their history in Iceland.

Q: What sights will we see on the South Coast? Is it the same as the Golden Circle tour?
A: Our journey focuses primarily on the South Coast and the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, featuring Iceland’s dramatic landscapes such as waterfalls, black sand beaches, glaciers, and volcanic scenery.

The tour does include a visit to Þingvellir National Park, which is one of the key sites of the Golden Circle. Other Golden Circle locations, such as Geysir or Gullfoss, may be visited if time and routing allow, but this cannot be guaranteed. The itinerary is not designed as a full Golden Circle tour.

Travellers who wish to explore the Golden Circle more fully may consider adding extra time in Iceland before or after the journey.

Flights & Arrival

Q: Are we travelling as a group or joining the group at the destination?
A: If you booked airfare through Craig Travel, including group flights from Toronto and select Canadian gateways, you will travel as part of the group. Travellers gather in Toronto for the direct flight to Reykjavik on May 29, 2026. If you booked your own airfare but are on the same flight, you will be part of the group as well. If you booked land only, you will make your way independently to Reykjavik to join the group there. We can help arrange an airport transfer for an additional cost.

Q: What airline will you use?

A: Craig Travel uses Icelandair for the included return economy group airfare from Toronto to Keflavík (KEF), Iceland with connections from other Canadian cities.

Journey Leaders & Communication

Q: When will we meet our Journey Leaders?
A: Your Journey Leaders, Deb and Brian, will contact you closer to departure with pre-trip information and to answer any questions. You will meet them in person either in Toronto (for the group flight) or in Reykjavik, depending on your travel arrangements.

Q: Is there a WhatsApp group to connect with fellow travellers?
A: Yes. Your journey leaders set up a WhatsApp group so travellers can ask questions, share tips, and get to know each other before the trip.

Mobility and Walking

Q: I can’t walk long distances. Are there alternatives?
A: Yes. If you are unable to participate in a walk, your Journey Leader will assist in making suitable arrangements. Depending on the location and timing, this may include waiting comfortably at a nearby café, visitor centre, or returning to the hotel if the schedule allows.

Guests are discouraged from remaining in or near the motorcoach, as the bus may be dropped off at one location and picked up at another. During that time, the coach may be away for servicing, refuelling, or other operational needs, and heating or air conditioning may not be available.

To help with planning, please discuss your needs with your Journey Leader the day before when reviewing the itinerary. This allows the team to make the best possible arrangements for your comfort and safety.

Dietary Requirements

Q: I have dietary restrictions. Can they accommodate my needs?
A: Yes. Most dietary needs, including lactose intolerance, gluten-free, vegetarian or other special diets, can usually be accommodated. Vegetarian options are always available. Please inform your travel advisor at least 60 days before departure. While every effort is made to avoid cross-contamination, it cannot be fully guaranteed. Many Icelandic hotel breakfasts, often buffet-style, include naturally gluten-free items such as eggs, cheese, skyr (yogurt), fresh produce and meats. Dedicated gluten-free bread or crispbread can be requested in advance.

Solo Travellers

Q: I’m a solo traveller. How can I avoid paying a single supplement?
A: Craig Travel offers the CT Match program, which pairs solo travellers with another traveller of the same gender who is also looking to share a room. This is a great way to avoid paying the single supplement and to meet a fellow traveller for your journey. While we do our best to accommodate requests, availability may be limited, so it’s recommended to sign up early.

Travel Insurance

Q: Is travel insurance included?
A: Travel insurance is not included in the tour price, but Craig Travel can help you purchase a policy that fits your needs. We recommend securing comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical emergencies, trip cancellation or interruption, lost or delayed baggage, and travel delays. Your travel advisor can provide guidance on the type of coverage most appropriate for your trip and help you arrange it conveniently before departure.

Sunlight

Q: What time does the sun rise and set in early June?
A: Reykjavík experiences nearly 24-hour daylight in early June 2026:

Sunrise: ~3:20–3:25 a.m.

Sunset: ~11:30–11:40 p.m.

There are only brief periods of dusk, giving you plenty of daylight for sightseeing.

Payments and Discounts

Q: Can the final payment be made by e-transfer and still receive the cheque discount?
A: Yes. The final payment can be made by e-transfer and you will receive the same discount that applies to cheque payments. The full amount must be transferred. If your bank has daily e-transfer limits (for example, $2,500 per day), you will need to start making payments several days before the final payment date to ensure the last transfer covers the remaining balance in full. Final payment can also be made by credit card (Visa or Mastercard) or bank transfer, but these methods do not qualify for the final payment discount.
