In June, Craig Traveller Cheryl and her mom, Joyce, set out on an unforgettable adventure to Haida Gwaii, a breathtaking archipelago roughly 100 km off the northern coast of British Columbia.
The journey began in Vancouver, where the group gathered before flying north to Sandspit. From there, the sailing adventure unfolded aboard the SV Island Solitude, surrounded by the spectacular beauty of Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve—a place rich in wildlife, ancient forests, and the vibrant traditions of the Haida people.
Days were filled with wonder: learning from an experienced crew, connecting with fellow travellers, and soaking in the peace of being on the water. Highlights included a visit to SGang Gwaay Linagaay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where cedar longhouses and carved poles stand as powerful testaments to Haida history. The outstanding Haida Gwaii Museum, guided interpretive forest walks, and encounters with Haida watchmen all deepened the sense of connection to this remarkable place.
