On our first trip to Norway some years ago, we had a brief taste of Oslo, with its’ battle-worn castle and friendly Royal Family and a few days at a big festival in a small, out-of the-way village. Pretty special in welcome, history and beauty. Our appetite was whetted for our upcoming Hurtigruten cruise, Norway, Land of the Midnight Sun with Craig Travel. This Norwegian voyage was spectacular from start to finish. Touring Bergen at the beginning and at the end of our time on board, and Oslo at the end of the tour itself, were magical.

MasterCard and Canada Post are teaming up to offer travellers an alternative to travelling with pockets full of cash – Cash Passport, a pre-paid Mastercard that can carry up to seven different currencies at any one time. According to officials, it’s how money should travel. It’s secure, convenient and reloadable, and will be accepted anywhere Mastercard is accepted.

2017 will mark a number of important anniversaries. Canada will be 150 years young. The world will mark the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge. And Germany will celebrate the 500th Anniversary of the life and times of Martin Luther, a man and scholar who did so much to change how we think about religion and how we worship.

Once again, the joyous season of Christmas is upon us; this time of sharing with family and friends and a time to reflect and appreciate the great fortune of living in this beautiful and peaceful country of Canada. Amidst the turmoil of recent world events, it is more important than ever to give thanks… for our families, our homes, our country at peace, our freedom to live and to express our views openly, to travel as we please. During this holy, holiday season and throughout the coming year, let us remember to pause, to reflect and to appreciate all that has been bestowed on us.

Some things about East Africa can only be experienced, not described or even photographed. Being in the midst of hundreds of thousands of animals moving 30 kilometers a day with their newborns, leaves one speechless. The sound, the dust raised, and the beauty elicits awe at the purposefulness of so many animals searching for water and better pasture. Sharp eyed zebra fringe the migration looking for predators.

The Mighty Mississippi, one of the world’s greatest rivers has long been overlooked by modern travellers. At over 3700 kilometres in length, the fourth longest river in the world is the watershed for 31 states and 2 Canadian provinces. Its history is the history of the expansion of the United States as the country grew from the original 13 colonies to encompass much of the lower 48. The backbone of North America at one point in its history it had over 1000 steam boats carrying passengers and freight between New Orleans, Ohio and Michigan.
