PORTS OF CALLSAN JOSE, Costa Rica
° The modern, bustling city of San José became capital of the
newly independent country in 1824. Our sightseeing tour
will introduce us to the highlights of the city beginning
with an orientation drive through the residential areas and
the Sabana Metropolitan Park. We’ll visit the historic National
Theater and the Pre-Columbian Gold Museum, one
of the few that exist worldwide. The exhibition here consists
of 1,000 original pieces that date from 300 to 1500
A.C. Next stop will be at the National Museum, the former
Bellavista Headquarters of the now-abolished army. Following
our city tour we will stop for lunch (on your own),
then enjoy a scenic drive to Caldera to board ms Symphony.
CALDERA, Costa Rica
° A very important port in the Pacific, Puerto Caldera is located
in the northern region of Puntarenas province and this tiny
town is a key port for ships from all across the globe. With
an industrial port complex built here to accommodate both
cruise liners as well as cargo vessels, Puerto Caldera plays a
vital role in Costa Rica’s trade with the world.
PANAMA CANAL
° Spend an unforgettable day cruising the Panama Canal, a fifty-
one-mile waterway through the rainforest that is one of
the world’s engineering masterpieces. The ship glides down
the canal with inches to spare, through locks that raise
and lower it like a toy. Along the way it crosses enormous
Gatun Lake, and the amazing Gaillard Cut, blasted out of a
solid mountainside.
ORANJESTAD, Aruba, The Netherlands
° Sophisticated Aruba, located just 15 miles from Venezuela’s coast, has a dry and sunny climate year-round. Next to arid deserts, which host an array of wild rock formations, curiously bent divi-divi trees and cactus jungles, are magnificent beaches and transparent blue waters.
MARIGOT BAY, St. Martin, French West Indies
° Marigot, the capital of French St. Martin, is a classic Caribbean
destination, with buildings adorned by ornate gingerbread and
an engaging personality that combines bustling neighbourhoods
with laid-back groove. Twice-weekly outdoor markets offer everything from homegrown produce to freshly caught fish, not to mention a chance to mingle and people watch.
ST. BARTS / GUSTAVIA, French West Indes
° St. Barts forms part of the French Overseas Region of Guadeloupe. Descendants of settlers from Brittany and Normandy operate its tiny inns, shops and restaurants. This charming, slow-paced island attracts tourists year-round. Spectacular beaches, the small volcanic mountains and the quaint Creole-style villages are just several of the alluring aspects of this tranquil island.
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, British Virgin Islands
° Tortola is the largest of the 50 British Virgin Islands. In Road
Town, the seat of government, the Union Jack proudly flies
above the residence of the British-appointed governor. As
part of the turbulent history of this region, pirates and other
European adventurers, famous seamen such as Blackbeard,
Kidd and Francis Drake, plied the waters of this magical area.
