THANK YOU FROM SOUTH AFRICA SOUP KITCHEN Dear Friends, Your gift of $1190.00 from Craig Travel and
$2675.00 from Craig Clients has made a huge difference to our budget
and even enabled us to put a few additional luxuries in the year-end
food parcel we handed out on 11th December. The parcel contained very
basic items, rice, soup powder, a can of corned beef, a can of baked
beans, a bottle of orange squash, a bottle of sunflower seed oil and a
small packet of biscuits . Jane Lyon added a chocolate. One cannot
imagine that such basic items could give children so much joy! This
year has not been great economically and we so appreciate your continued
support in the light of the economic downturn. Thank you for all you
and your clients have done to help us feed the most needy. We wish you
all a great festive season and a happy, healthy 2010. Yours in
gratitude, Edna Light, Founder, AfriCan Link Fund

RUSSIAN WATERWAYS - An
Increasingly Popular Way to Discover Russia
While
many dream of taking the Trans Siberian train across Russia, an
increasingly popular way to see Russia is from a riverboat along its
mighty rivers. Popular cruise routes run between Moscow and St
Petersburg with many opportunities for sightseeing and new experiences
along the way. The luxurious ms Tolstoy offers a fascinating
12 night cruise and includes accommodation, all meals and entertainment
onboard and sightseeing excursions. Starting from Moscow, first stop is
Uglich after leaving the Moscow Canal. Uglich is famed for the Church of
St Dmitry of the Blood, where it's said that they found Ivan the
Terrible's son murdered. Continuing on, a visit to Yaroslavl is next.
It might be a detour down the Volga River to this Golden Ring city, but
touring this historical place is worth it, especially to see the Church
of Elijah the Prophet. Heading further north, we pass through several
large lakes, including White Lake. Enroute, a stop at the traditional
village of Goritsy is often made, with a visit to St. Cyril Monastery.
Before making the turn towards St Petersburg, we'll sail to Lake Onega
where, in the middle sits Kizhi Island, a UNESCO World Heritage site
full of Russian wooden architecture. Here is the Church of the
Transfiguration, complete with its 22 wooden onion domes, all built
without using a single nail! Continuing on, ms Tolstoy meanders
along the Svir and Neva Rivers into beautiful St Petersburg. One of
the true delights of this fascinating voyage is that our ship docks in
the heart of the historic towns and cities we visit! Once you arrive,
you're in the heart of it all! For information on this year's RUSSIAN
WATERWAYS departures, May 18 – 31

HOLLAND CELEBRATES 65 YEARS SINCE LIBERATION
Be a
part of history! In May 2010 many Canadians will journey to the
Netherlands to remember and celebrate the 65th anniversary of the
Liberation of the Netherlands. The journey will undoubtedly be an
enriching experience. Visitors will walk in the footsteps of their
fellow Canadian men and women in uniform, who, 65 years ago in 1945,
played such an important role in liberating the Dutch from their German
oppressors. Canadian soldiers were amongst the first allied troops to
enter a large area of the Netherlands to liberate their towns and
villages. Both here in Canada and in the Netherlands there will be
numerous activities to commemorate the end of the Second World War in
Europe. Visitors will be provided with deeper insights into how and why
the bonds of friendship between our two countries were forged during the
Second World War. Another reason for this mutual friendship can be
found in Canada's role in providing hospitality to members of the Dutch
Royal Family in 1945. To see how you can be a part of history,

JAPAN – The Ryokan Experience
A ryokan
embodies the very essence of Japan and is surely the accommodation of
choice if you wish to personally experience the uniqueness of the
country - the architecture, lifestyle, nature, traditions and culture.
Staying at a Japanese ryokan offers a splendid opportunity to
familiarize yourself with the spirit of Japanese hospitality and
graceful customs that have been passed down over many generations.
From
the moment of arrival, you will step into a different world, one of
grace and charm, of tranquility and beauty, while experiencing the
elements of Japanese culture and customs: living in a room with Tatami
(straw mat) flooring, changing into a typical Yukata (robe) after
taking a hot-spring bath, sleeping on a Futon (bedding) put down
directly on the Tatami floor. This is truly Japan at its best and no
visit to this land would be complete without spending a night in one of
these traditional inns.
To learn more on this very special
experience, we suggest you visit the website of the Japan Ryokan
Association at www.ryokan.or.jp/index_en.html.
BERMUDA – ALL PINK AND WHITE
AND STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL!
Extraordinarily
pleasant weather, pink sand beaches, pink buildings with frothy white
roofs and a distinctive islandscape make Bermudians and visitors alike,
love this island wholeheartedly. Even though Bermudians speak of
Bermuda as their "island," it is, in fact, composed of approximately 180
islands, linked by bridges, and divided into nine picturesque parishes.
And ALL of the islands feature spectacular beaches, lush vegetation
and unique wildlife. Bermudians are a diverse group, with numbers
reaching approximately 65,500. Looking at their faces you will see every
colour of the rainbow. Listen to them speak and you will hear the
official language, English, flavoured with a Bermudian lilt. Many also
speak Portuguese. Bermudians are flattered about their reputation as
some of the friendliest people in the world, and they do their best to
keep it that way. Needless to say, they very much look forward to
showing visitors why they love to call this beautiful place their home. Although
the first settlers in 1612 were most probably all English, the island's
population rapidly became mixed. In fact, the first black man and first
Native American arrived on the island in 1616 to dive for pearls.
Today, the population is a racial and cultural mix with strong British,
African and Caribbean influences. Island families trace their roots
around the globe, including: The Azores, Great Britain, Madeira Islands,
North America, Portugal and the West Indies. For information on our
